The castle is located within the municipality of Magnano in Riviera (province of Udine, Italy), 18 Km North of the city of Udine, along the National Road No.13. The closest railway station is Artegna, along the Udine-Tarvisio railway line.

The castle

The castle was destroyed by the earthquake in 1976. The restoration works currently under way, having cleared the surviving walls, have brought to light the original plan of the castle and clarified the circumstances of its foundation. The material witnesses appear to be in extraordinary agreement with the related written documents.

The earliest statement dates back to April 1265:

"in rivo verso castrum de Prambergo (on the river in front of the fortress of Prambergo⁽¹⁾"
